Customize Facebook Livestream URL

Some of my facebook friends ask me about how to customize Facebook Livestream URL, they also want to have their site url on livestream update. So, what is facebook livestream actually? based on what they say on their livestream generator page, The Live Stream plugin lets users visiting your site or application share activity and comments in real time. Live Stream works best when you are running a real-time event, like live streaming video for concerts, speeches, or webcasts, live Web chats, webinars, massively multiplayer games.

Here is an example of livestream post on facebook profile. Screenshot :

looks like a usual status update from many custom applications out there, right? But the unique part of this livestream that makes it different from general facebook status update applications is we can customize its URL to any location we want. Notice the red part of the image above, a normal status updater application would link to its application page, for example : http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=58408924877, but this livestream status would link to top URL. So, if you generate the code and put it on your website, it would link to your site

Now let me show you how to make that custom URL on livestream without having to put the code on your website, we can use javascript trick to make it happen, you can have it link to any URL. Kindly follow this instruction carefully :

1. First, you need to setup a new facebook application, proceed here : http://www.facebook.com/developers/createapp.php
2. Enter your application name, choose agree then click “create application” button
3. A new dialog box will appear, change your application icon and logo on “about” tab
4. Go to “Facebook integration tab”. set your canvas page name, ex : test-livestream or something
5. Click “save changes” button
6. Get you application id, you will need this on the next step

7. Now go to your website or any URL you want to link with the livestream, wait until the page is fully loaded
8. Copy paste this code on the address bar : (dont forget to change the red part with your own application ID)

9. Facebook livestream is now ready to post your update with your website link on its application name

With this code, you dont have to insert the generated code from facebook livestream plugin generator into your website, you can also dynamically change the link location anytime anywhere. This will be good for your site promotion as this livestream will show on your friends facebook homepage.
